QUINCY, MI (WTVB) – Quincy Community Schools are closed for Thursday after the district got what officials are calling “a concerning message” from social media on Wednesday afternoon.
The district sent out e-mails and phone calls to students and parents in the district which stated, “The message was not specific to any person but was concerning. The Quincy Police Department was contacted and began an investigation. Out of an abundance of caution and to provide more time to thoroughly investigate this matter, Quincy Community Schools will be closed tomorrow, Thursday, December 7, 2023. The safety of our students, staff, and community is paramount to us and we appreciate your understanding as we work through this difficult situation.”
Quincy Police Chief Mike Kolassa said the message was posted on a social media site by a local juvenile. His report will be turned into the Branch County Prosecutor’s office who will determine if charges will be filed.
Because of the school closing, the Thursday home Middle School basketball games against Springport as well as the Varsity and JV Girls Basketball games at Napoleon have been cancelled. Attempts will be made to reschedule the contests.
