COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The tenth annual Branch County Shop with a Hero was held on Thursday night at the Coldwater Walmart.
Members of various Branch County police, fire and emergency departments are paired with children from the Naomi Davis Shelter house to help them shop for Christmas.
Funds for the event are donated by local citizens and from the proceeds of an annual golf outing held each summer by the Lakeland Employees Club.
Each child is given a gift card to use. They and their First Responder then shop for their family, the Marine Corp Toys of Tots campaign and themselves.
Gift wrapping is provided by Walmart staff and staff from the various agencies.
Before the youngsters went shopping, the first responders went east on U.S. 12 from Western Avenue to the Walmart store with their lights and sirens on, hoping to make Christmas just a little brighter for them.
Taking part in Shop with a Hero were the Branch County Sheriff’s Office, the Bronson Fire Department, the Coldwater Police Department, the Michigan State Police, the Department of Natural Resource, Lakeland Prison, the Quincy Police Department and Life Care Ambulance.
