QUINCY, MI (WTVB) – Quincy Police Chief Mike Kolassa said in a statement he issued on Friday night that the current threat involving Quincy Community Schools has been investigated by the Quincy Police Department and assisted by the Michigan State Police. He said it has been determined that the original threat has now been identified and, “as of now there no longer is any danger of an incident occurring at the school or in the community. The current investigation is still ongoing and if you have any information or questions, you can contact my office at any time.”
Kolassa said on Thursday the message that initially caused concern was posted on a social media site by a local juvenile. The Branch County Prosecutor’s office will determine if charges are to be filed.
Details of the threats have not been released by school or police officials. It’s not known if two social media threats were related.
A second potential threat led to the closing of Quincy Community Schools for a second straight day on Friday. In a message posted on the district’s Facebook page Thursday night, Quincy Superintendent Marc Kramer said they received another picture with a caption that contains a concerning message and that the message was found again on social media. The statement went on to say the message is general and did not threaten any specific person or group of people or building.
The events of the last couple of days involving Quincy Community Schools led the Quincy Chamber of Commerce and the Village of Quincy to postpone Quincy Lights for one week to next Friday evening, December 15 with opening ceremonies at 5:30 p.m..
