COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A Detroit man who tried to smuggle drugs and smart phones into the Lakeland Correctional Facility was ordered to serve between 45 months and 20 years in prison on Monday in Branch County Circuit Court.
59-year-old Edison William Terry entered a no contest plea to a charge of delivery of methamphetamine. Four other counts were dismissed by prosecutors in exchange for his plea.
Terry and 28-year-old Adoreray Samone Bruce of Detroit were arrested by the Michigan State Police and the Michigan Department of Corrections on August 13 following a month long investigation into incidents involving drugs and cell phones being smuggled into the Lakeland Correctional Facility.
Court documents state the packages recovered by police contained two smart phones, about 96 grams of marijuana wax, 10 grams of suspected powder heroin and about 30 grams of suspect methamphetamine.
Bruce is scheduled to go on trial in Branch County Circuit Court on February 27, 2024. Her next court appearance is a pre-trial conference on January 8.
