COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Branch County Board of Commissioners gave formal approval on Tuesday to 4-point-5 percent wage increases in 2024 for Elected Officials as well as for Non-Union and Management Personnel.
Commissioners are not included in the wage increases for elected officials.
Commissioner Jon Houtz said this increase would bring the non-union employees to within two percent of what the union personnel are making.
He said union contracts have another year to go.
In other business, the Commissioners approved a new one year contract with Juvenile Defender Ben Jewell effective on January 1, 2024.
The current contract will expire on December 31, 2023. The contract between the county and Jewell assures that there is legal representation for individuals entitled to court appointed counsel. That includes juvenile delinquents and youth involved in neglect and abuse matters.
The contract also covers individuals subject to involuntary hospitalization. The contract amount is $76,800 and it has not increased in the past two years.
