QUINCY, MI (WTVB) – Quincy improved to 3-2 on Monday night with an exciting 70-62 overtime win over the Colon Magi inside of the Coolest Gym in Michigan.
The Orioles controlled the action in the first quarter, jumping out to a 22-12 lead. The Magi answered back in a big way, taking the lead into the locker room 30-26 after outscoring Quincy 18-4 in the second quarter.
Quincy stormed back after halftime adjustments, outscoring Colon 23-10 in the third quarter, making the score 49-40 heading into the fourth quarter.
The Orioles seemed to once again be in control of the game, but the Magi had other plans, tying the game 58-58 with about 19 seconds to go. Quincy took the last shot, but the 15-footer hit back iron and the game went to overtime.
Grant Carter started the extra period by splashing a 3-pointer and the Orioles never looked back. Quincy was 11-14 on free throws in the fourth quarter and overtime to seal the game.
Brandon Miner and Carter both scored 24 points for Quincy. They each grabbed six rebounds. Carter also had four assists.
Ryan Kempter added 11 points.
Quincy travels to Athens on Friday in non-conference action. J.V. starts at 5:30 p.m., with Varsity to follow.
