Ruby M. Drinkwater, 77, of Homer passed away Monday, December 18, 2023 at Maple Lawn Medical Care Facility in Coldwater.
Funeral services will be held Friday, December 22, 2023 at 12 p.m. at the Eagle Funeral Home-George White Chapel in Quincy with Pastor Mark Case officiating. Interment will follow in St. Joe Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.
She was born June 2, 1946 in Pitman, PA to Herman and Mildred (Wetzel) Snyder. Sadly, Mildred passed away shortly after. Herman later married Helen Shroyer and together they raised Ruby. Ruby graduated from Dauphin High School in Elizabethville, PA in 1964.
She briefly married and divorced and had a baby girl to take care of, so she moved to Michigan where her brother lived to make a fresh start. In 1971, she met Larry Drinkwater and August 1, 1980 they were married and she had another baby girl.
Ruby had many various jobs including waitressing and she worked at Shaw Shoe with the “miserable glue machine!” Ruby was long employed at the Coldwater Regional Center (State Home) until it closed in 1994, then transferred to Kalamazoo Psychiatric Hospital where she was able to retire from in 1997.
Ruby attended Stokes Chapel Church for many years and sang in the choir. She enjoyed choir practice and especially looked forward to the Christmas program. Other hobbies Ruby enjoyed were crocheting, embroidery, plastic canvas and writing letters.
She always considered Pennsylvania “home” and would take many vacations and trips back there. After retiring she dedicated April and August to “going home to visit” family and friends.
Ruby is survived by her husband of 43 years, Larry Drinkwater; daughters, Amanda (Brad) Trine and Jennifer (Jeff) Phair; grandchildren, Jack, David and Katherine Trine and Isabella Smith; sisters-in-law, Joan Snyder of Quincy, Annabelle Coriell of Homer, Dorothy McClellan of Quincy and Judy Roberts of Litchfield. She is also survived by her three best friends from school, Bonnie (Terry) Maurer of Cressona, PA, Deanna Weaver of Millersburg, PA and Helen (Sam) Barger of Lykens, PA and many nieces and nephews.
Ruby was preceded in death by her parents; brother and his wife, Kenneth (Rita) Snyder, brother, James Snyder; brother-in-law and his wife, Richard (Catherine) Coriell, brothers-in-law, Loyal McClellan and LeRoy Roberts and longtime friends Clara and Jerry Wolfcale.
