COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Coldwater Main Street Director Audrey Tappenden gave a mostly positive report on the impact of the two year old Main Street program on Coldwater’s downtown area during Wednesday’s Downtown Development Authority meeting.
The report stated that Downtown Coldwater, “is taking big steps to help revitalize its historic downtown and create a place for families and residents of all ages.”
Tappenden pointed out the Main Street program is making a difference.
Among the highlighted projects were the Flickinger family restoration of the façade at 22 West Chicago, the flipping of the former Gillespie Funeral Home into seven apartment units and new public restrooms in the alley between South Monroe Street and Tibbits Plaza.
Tappenden said she is trying to get information from the report into the hands of as many people as possible.
According to the report, Main Street’s downtown goals, “is to create family-friendly experiences with a focus on arts and culture, revitalize buildings and public spaces to enhance an authentic sense of community that is attractive to all ages and create an entrepreneurial ecosystem that supports existing and new, experience based and multicultural businesses.”

Director Tappenden is doing a pretty good job, but Coldwater needs more restaurants to achieve her goals. The coming flower mural on the old Taylor Building will be bright, cherry and attractive. It will likely increase local sunglasses sales too.
