COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Cardinal boys basketball team dropped to 2-5 overall following their 57-47 loss to Portage Northern at the Coach Floyd Eby Gymnasium. The Cards trailed 12-5 after the first quarter but were able to cut the deficit to three, 24-21, at the halftime break. The Huskies outscored Coldwater in the second half 33-26.
Gavin Taylor had a team-high 14 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals, while Niko Downs added 13 points and 3 assists. Leading scorer Ayden Dirschell was held to just 2 points but pulled down 8 boards for the Cardinals, who will host Parma Western on Thursday.
Quinton Swanson led all scorers with 22 points for the Huskies, who improved to 5-2 and will host Gull Lake Thursday night.

Portage Northern won the JV game 48-45. The Huskies also won the freshman contest 84-26; Finn Hanson led Coldwater with 8 points.
Elsewhere, Bronson dropped to 4-2 as Britton Deerfield beat the Vikings 61-48 in the semifinals of the Clinton Holiday Tournament. Bronson will face Whitmore Lake in the consolation game Thursday night after the Trojans fell to the host school 85-46.
Tekonsha dropped to 1-6 following their 63-19 loss to visiting Hillsdale Academy.
