COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A new fire engine has been delivered to the Coldwater Fire Department.
Spencer Manufacturing of South Haven built and delivered the new fire engine after the Coldwater City Council approved a bid of over $822,000 in June of 2022.
It was the only bid submitted which was the main reason the vote to approve the new engine was only 6-3.
Chief Dave Schmaltz said at the time the new fire engine was needed because the department had two vehicles over 25 years old.
A 1997 engine and pumper is being replaced. Schmaltz told the City Council in June of 2022 the company that built it is now out of business.
The department hopes to sell the 26 year old truck sometime after the first of the year. Coldwater firefighters have begun to train on the new engine and equipment will still need to be installed.
It has a tentative in service date of Monday, January 8, 2024.
Good Grief! I want to get a job selling fire trucks.
