COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater City Council approved a request from City Manager Keith Baker on Monday night to have the Michigan Department of Transportation and the Michigan State Police conduct a speed study on U.S. 12 between Northshore Drive and the western city limits.
Some citizens raised concerns about speeds during the recent focus on the Rotary Park renovation and the U.S. 12 bridge project.
Baker says MDOT works closely with the State Police to set speed limits on trunk line highways. He says speed limits are established based on nationally accepted standards using a variety of engineering and traffic data.
Speed studies are conducted by MDOT and MSP at the request of local government agencies.
The Council passed a formal resolution from the city requesting a speed study.

Speeding on the West side of Coldwater on U.S.12 and M86 doesn’t need to be studied which is a waste of more money. It needs to be stopped. It’s been bad for several years. I know because I live out that way and aggressive driving is constant. It’s a wonder there are not more crashes and fatalities.
