COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A Branch County Circuit Court jury convicted a Coldwater woman late Wednesday afternoon on five counts after she shot her daughter during an argument in their home on January 26, 2023.
After an hour of deliberation, 65-year-old Kathleen Annette Rowe was found guilty of discharging a firearm in a building causing serious impairment, assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder, two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon and felony firearm.
The verdict was returned at the end of a two day trial which took place after Rowe rejected a plea agreement in October.
Rowe was convicted of shooting her 33-year-old daughter Kacey Stringer in the abdomen. The jury did not buy the defense claim that the shooting was in self-defense. Stringer said she made no threats against her mother.
Sentencing is scheduled for March 25. Because of the defendant’s health, Judge Bill O’Grady allowed her to remain free until her sentencing after a $150,000 bond was posted last February.
Shoots her own daughter in the stomach, lies and says it was “self-defense” and this ashole judge lets her walk around town a free woman. O’ Grady is an idiot.
That’s what I said. I sat in the crowd and watched that trial. Methamphetamine led up to this altercation. The judge didn’t want to believe Kathleen was a meth head. The first day of the trial she was coming down from meth and couldn’t stay awake. The prosecutor almost stopped the trial. Prosecutor told the judge they were not gonna have a missed trial due to their client not being awake during proceedings. The mother was very narcissistic and controlling. There was a lot more to the story. The mother was the one buying the methamphetamine. The plot twist was when she died six months into her prison sentence. I’m sure coming off of all those drugs wasn’t easy on her body. Ogrady kept making excuses for the mother. Saying her conditions she was showing in the courtroom was from her medical conditions lmao. What a joke. There’s body cam footage from a city police officer (The only body cam worn there at that situation that day.) and it shows the branch county responding officer cussing out the victim. Wild all around.
