BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – National Weather Service forecasters say very cold conditions will persist through Tuesday with highs in the single digits and lows below zero.
The wind chills are expected to be as low as 25 degrees below zero.
With the bitter cold temperatures, many communities are urging residents to keep a faucet running in order to prevent pipes from freezing up.
The Village of Quincy had to tell residents for a time on Sunday to refrain from using water after high service pumps at the village’s water plant were having problems functioning properly.
The problem was corrected and residents were told at about 6:30 p.m. to resume trickling water.
The City of Bronson has a “Run Water Advisory” in effect through Thursday. Bronson water customers were asked to run a small stream of water from a faucet in their home or business in order to prevent water service from freezing.
The Coach Eby Youth and Family Center opened its doors as an emergency warming center on Saturday night. The warming center will remain open 24 hours a day through noon Wednesday, January 17.
Cots and blankets will be available to sleep at night and meals will be provided.
