BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – After a Wind Chill Warning expired at noon on Monday, the National Weather Service issued a Wind Chill Advisory which is in effect until 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday morning for Branch and surrounding counties.
A blast of arctic air was expected to drop wind chills to as low as 10 to 25 below zero in portions of northern Indiana, southwest Michigan and northwest Ohio for the next couple of days.
Forecasters say the cold wind chills could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes.
Residents were asked to use caution while traveling outside and to wear appropriate clothing including a hat and gloves.
The mercury finally crawled above zero at the Branch County Memorial Airport 12:30 p.m. Monday after being in negative numbers since 4:30 a.m. on Sunday morning.
Sunday morning’s low in Coldwater six degrees below zero. Monday was the coldest morning of the winter so far as the temperature dipped to nine degrees below zero.
