COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Community School Board of Education approved the renewal of an Independent Contract Agreement with Battle Creek’s Hampton Aquatics and Fitness to manage and operate the Doctor Robert W. Browne Aquatic Center Monday night.
The original one year agreement was approved in November of 2024. Board President Dr. Edward Lake read from the resolution which stated the renewal was for three years.
The hiring of Hampton Aquatics and Fitness was part of a five year Intergovernmental and Interlocal contract between the City of Coldwater and Coldwater Community Schools on the operation of the swimming pool.
Hampton took over the daily operations of the Browne Aquatic Center January 1, 2025.
It was revealed during the summer of 2024 that the operation of the pool was in the red by over $300,000 per year. Numerous meetings involving local school and government officials were held to find a solution to the financial problem.
The pool is owned by the City of Coldwater with operation and maintenance handled by Coldwater Community Schools.
