COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater City Council is scheduled to take action tonight on a resolution that would allow a Coldwater City Police officer to become a member of the South West Enforcement Team.
The City will seek a grant through the Michigan State Police to partially offset the cost of participating in SWET;
Director of Public Safety Joe Scheid went before the City Council two weeks ago in hopes of convincing them the city’s police department should be part of SWET.
The multi-jurisdictional law enforcement organization is comprised of a number of law enforcement agencies and is led by the Michigan State Police.
Lt. Richard Pazder with the State Police told the Council they operate in nine southwest Michigan counties where they investigate and prosecute drug offenses and other criminal activity.
Scheid delivered a power point which detailed some of the drug challenges facing the community.
The presentation and question-and-answer period lasted for over a half hour. The intent was to give the Council a chance to review what SWET is all about.
