COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – After some questions were raised by members of the Coldwater City Council, an agenda item concerning the Police Department to become a member of the South West Enforcement Team was pulled at the last minute on Monday.
No reason was given during the meeting as to why it was pulled but City Manager Keith Baker said on Tuesday they pulled the request for future consideration.
Baker went on to say in an e-mail, “At this time, we will not be pursuing participation in SWET but may revisit in the future.”
A resolution that was originally posted on the agenda would allow a Coldwater City Police officer to become a member of SWET. In turn, the City would have sought a grant through the Michigan State Police to partially offset the cost of participating in the multi-jurisdictional law enforcement organization.
Director of Public Safety Joe Scheid went before the City Council on January 8 in hopes of convincing them the city’s police department should be part of SWET. The multi-jurisdictional law enforcement organization is comprised of a number of law enforcement agencies and is led by the Michigan State Police.
