COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Hope Café was voted the winner of last Saturday’s Soup and Chili Cook-Off during the Coldwater Main Street Program’s second Love Local event.
The Hope Café won the Best of Bowls Award for their creamy Mexican-inspired soup, after taking a close second in 2023.
The Best of Bowls award is given to the soup or chili cook-off participant with the most votes from ticket purchasers.
Of the over 150 people who purchased tickets for the Soup and Chili Cook-Off, 73 votes were cast for Hope Café.
Bill’s Grill House was second while last year’s Champion, Oscar Brown’s Tavern, was third.
Similar to last year, all restaurants and all soups received votes as taster’s top choices.
The Love Local event promoted community engagement in the downtown area by encouraging retail shopping and participation in valentine’s-themed activities.
Several downtown restaurants and organizations made their own soup or chili for the event while others partnered with a local restaurant to set up a tasting station.
This year’s contestants included Broadway Grille, Coach Eby Youth and Family Center, The Lamp Lighter, Hope Café, Two Bandits Brewing Company, Oscar Brown’s Tavern, Bill’s Grill House, Short’s Front Porch, Bent Prop Pub, and Kick’n Kountry.
A post-event survey is available for event-goers on the City’s website and will be circulated on the Downtown Coldwater Facebook page.
