COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Interstate 8-leading Jackson Northwest came into their game against Coldwater averaging nearly 46 points per game. The Cardinals used a stifling 2-3 zone defense to force 20 Mountie turnovers and hold the visitors to a season-low point total in a 32-25 win Tuesday night at the Coach Floyd Eby Gymnasium.
Elli Foley led Coldwater with 8 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 steals, while Rylie VanAken finished with 7. Mya Porter and Kenzie Scheid had 6 points apiece, with Porter adding 3 boards and 3 assists. Northwest’s leading scorer, Ashley Weller, was held to 10 points; their #2 scorer, Mara Mitchell, only scored 4 before fouling out with around 5 minutes left in the game.
With their first league loss, the Mounties fell to 12-2 overall, 7-1 in the Interstate 8. The Cardinals are two games back at 6-3; they improved to 14-3 overall and will visit Parma Western Friday night.

In Big Eight Conference girls basketball games on Tuesday, Bronson romped to a 51-13 victory over Reading, Quincy lost to Concord 47-30 and Union City was beaten by Springport 59-15. Bronson, Concord and Springport remain tied for first place in the Big 8 with 7-1 conference records.
