BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – Fifteen Branch County wrestlers punched their tickets for the MHSAA Individual State Finals at Ford Field in Detroit over the weekend by finishing in top four of their respective weight classes in regional competition.
In the boys individual regionals on Saturday, Coldwater’s Tre Miller qualified for the Division Two State Finals by finishing third at 157 pounds.
In Division Four, Bronson advanced six to the State Finals including 165 pound regional champion Mason Lindsey.
Other Vikings who qualified were Owen Kimmons (2nd-126), Gabe Erwin (2nd-150), Layne Knisely (3rd-157), Carson Norton (2nd-175) and Jacob Britten (2nd-190).
Union City will send seven to the D4 finals in the Motor City including three regional Champs. Finishing first were Landyn Crance (138), Aidan Taylor (144) and Montana Connell (150).
Other Charger state qualifiers were Blayne Crance (3rd-106), Mitchell Graham (4th-113), Logan Mears (2nd-132) and Alex Boyer (4th-132).
In girls wrestling, Mackenna Webster of Bronson advanced to the MHSAA Finals with a first place finish in the regional tournament hosted by Gull Lake on Sunday.
In addition, Bronson’s Chad Butters has been named the Regional head coach of the year while Chase Gibson was named the Regional Assistant coach of the year.
