UNION CITY, MI (WTVB) – Work is wrapping up on the renovation of Union City High School’s Alumni Field.
The project included new bleachers as the old ones were failing due to erosion. Union City Community School District voters approved a sinking fund millage renewal proposal in August of 2021 which provided a portion of the funding for the bleacher project.
Superintendent Chris Katz told the district’s School Board on Monday night that while the stadium maybe ready for a track meet in early April, the restrooms may not be available.
Katz said all of the steps and aluminum seats will be done by the end of March.
Meanwhile, the district has sent out a request for proposals for the resurfacing of the track this summer. Katz says the current track will have to be cleaned up before the start of the season following the bleacher construction.
Some touch up paint will have to be performed on areas where the lines have gotten light.
Katz says everything will be done by the start of the football season in the fall.
