COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A new Therapy K-9 Program will soon be available on the Waldron Learning Center campus.
Christa Conroy from the Waldron Center said in a recent letter to parents and guardians that the program aims to enhance students’ well-being and provide additional emotional support through the presence of a specially trained therapy dog.
She says the therapy dog will have to undergo extensive training at Magnum K9 in Quincy and will be selected to participate in the program due to its gentle nature and ability to provide comfort to individuals in need.
Branch I.S.D. Superintendent Kris Jenkins says there is no exact date as to when the program will start but they hope it’s sometime before spring break.
If everything works out, the therapy dog will be introduced to each building on the Waldron campus and spend designated days offering emotional support to students.
An opt out form was sent to parents and guardians so that they could indicate they don’t want their child in the presence of the therapy dog.
