COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The tenth annual Branch County United Way Power of the Purse fundraising event which raises funds for the Dolly Parton Imagination Library and other Branch County United Way agencies will be held on Saturday at the Dearth Community Center.
Last year’s event raised $67,500. The Dolly Parton Imagination Library supplies free books to area children under the age of five.
Numerous local businesses get involved as sponsors or have their employees serve as volunteers. Only women are allowed to attend the event which is divided up into a lunch and dinner.
Normally, two local women are honored as the Women of the Year. But since this is the tenth anniversary of empowering and celebrating women, organizers have announced that 10 local women will be honored.
The 10 women being honored during Saturday’s lunch are Amy Galliers, Hannah Musgrove, Jennifer Poe, Laura Maynard, Shana Grife, Mashaun Schabloski, Missy Lafferty, Nancy Sprow, Kimberly Hatzinikolis and Vanessa Crandall.
