QUINCY, MI (WTVB) – Quincy Community Schools Superintendent Marc Kramer has posted a letter on the district’s web site which he says contains factual information about recent environmental concerns at their school.
The district recently received information that according to Kramer came from a small number of families who were raising concerns about environmental issues at Quincy Schools. Those concerns were reported to the Branch-St. Joseph-Hillsdale Community Health Agency.
The health department then conducted a survey among the families. Kramer says the health department has indicated that they have no link directly connecting the school with any of these concerns.
The health department came to Quincy Schools on February 21 and conducted a walkthrough of the high school and middle school. Kramer says they indicated in a letter that there were no obvious concerns related to the school environment and that that they did not observe evidence of any active rodent infestation or water infiltration with damage to building materials.
He adds out an abundance of caution, the district decided to request water and air testing.
According to Kramer’s statement, Trace Analytical Laboratories conducted water tests. Most of the water testing results were provided to the district on Friday and while the district currently is waiting for one last strand of the water testing to be completed, the results so far show no issues with the water supply and that it is safe for consumption.
Michigan Air and Mold also conducted indoor air quality testing. According to Kramer, testing results released to the district last Thursday showed no issues with the school’s indoor air quality and that the middle school and high school meet all EPA and Air Quality Standards.
The water and air quality reports have been posted on the district’s web site which is www.quincyschools.org.
