Joyce L. (Young) Raser, 86, passed away March 1, 2024 in Quincy, Michigan.
A memorial service to celebrate Joyce’s life will be held, with details to be announced at a later date.
The funeral arrangements are being handled by Eagle Funeral Home – George White Chapel located at 111 E Chicago St, Quincy, MI 49082.
She was the beloved wife of the late Elvin E. Raser for 27 years.
She was born on December 2, 1937, in Jackson, Michigan, the daughter of Raoul and Murial (Hausworth) Young and was preceded in death by her five sisters, her daughters Brenda Coppernoll and Dawn McLain.
Joyce was a woman of deep faith and was actively involved in various churches throughout her life. She had a profound knowledge of the Bible and was known for her dedication to reading it daily. In her younger years, she served as a Sunday school teacher and a Daisy group leader.
Everyone who had the pleasure of meeting Joyce was captivated by her sweet and kind nature. She had an almost childlike innocence that endeared her to all. In her later years, Joyce became known as the “Queen of the rhymes,” always ready with a clever rhyme for any word given to her.
Joyce’s son, Roger Hoch, lovingly referred to her by endearing nicknames such as “The Mother Superior” and “Schmoopie.” Their bond went beyond mother and son; she was his spiritual leader, teacher, and best friend. Joyce will be deeply missed by Roger, her 6 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, and a community of friends and neighbors.
In her leisure time, Joyce found joy in baking cakes and desserts to share with others, especially at church gatherings and for special occasions. She cherished moments spent by the lake, watching skiers, boats, and pontoons pass by. Word find puzzles were another favorite pastime of hers.
