ANGOLA, IN (WTVB) – A Steuben County trial for 62-year-old Ricky Devonne McLatcher of Quincy has been canceled after he entered a guilty plea for a 1986 cold case sexual assault.
McLatcher pleaded guilty to Class A felony criminal deviant conduct and Class B felony criminal confinement in LaGrange Superior Court following a 39-year investigation.
He was recently sentenced to 42 years in prison, with eight years suspended for probation, and is required to register as a lifetime sex offender.
The conviction stems from an October 1986 incident in which a woman was abducted in LaGrange County after stopping to move an object from the roadway.
Investigators utilized modern genetic genealogy techniques in 2023 to identify McLatcher’s family line from DNA evidence collected at the scene, eventually narrowing the search to McLatcher himself.
He was arrested by Michigan State Police in February 2025 and extradited to Indiana to face the charges.

Do you know who the victim was? Any other details? So many things are missing from the article.
