COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Those who attended the Branch County United Way’s Power of the Purse event last Saturday helped raise a record amount of money.
United Way officials announced on Wednesday that the tenth annual event held at the Dearth Community Center raised over $67,100 for the Dolly Parton Imagination Library and other Branch County United Way agencies
In over 10 years, the Coldwater community has raised over $419,000.
Numerous local businesses get involved as sponsors or have their employees serve as volunteers. Only women are allowed to attend the event which is divided up into a lunch and dinner.
Normally, two local women are honored as the Women of the Year. But since this is the tenth anniversary of empowering and celebrating women, organizers have announced that 10 local women will be honored.
The 10 women being honored during Saturday’s lunch are Amy Galliers, Hannah Musgrove, Jennifer Poe, Laura Maynard, Shana Grife, Mashaun Schabloski, Missy Lafferty, Nancy Sprow, Kimberly Hatzinikolis and Vanessa Crandall.
The Power of the Purse funds the Branch County United Way effort to supply free books to area children from birth to age five.
