COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – ProMedica President and Chief Executive Officer Arturo Polizzi has indicated in a letter to employees at ProMedica Coldwater Regional Hospital that while the hospital made great strides last year, and they are encouraged about the year ahead, the hospital is still up for sale.
He says, “Although the proposed sale of CRH to American Healthcare Systems did not come to fruition, we continue to believe the hospital, its programs, services and physician network would provide strategic advantages to other health care systems, and we are continuing to work with our third-party broker to identify candidates. There has been some renewed interest of late, but those inquiries are at the very initial stages.”
According to Polizzi, the hospital’s financials improved considerably in 2023. He points out surgeries and ER visits at CRH increased over 2022, and total operating expenses per adjusted discharge decreased by 10 percent.
Polizzi said high safety levels were maintained as evidenced by an “A” grade from The Leapfrog Group.
Many people in the Coldwater community are still angry about ProMedica’s decision in late 2023 to shut down its Home Health and Hospice programs as well as the OB unit. The decisions led to many negative comments about ProMedica on social media platforms.
Polizzi says in his letter, “ProMedica remains committed to the Coldwater community, our patients and the viability of CRH. We know that change is not easy, and the closure of the OB unit in 2023 was particularly difficult. While we have no current plans for additional large-scale changes, we will always be open to optimizing operational models and efficiencies that maintain high quality and safety for our community.”
He indicated ProMedica has active efforts underway to expand and enhance orthopedics, general surgery and oncology services in the Coldwater community and that they are also continuing to support capital needs that improve safety, quality and patient satisfaction.
Sadly this is what happens much like our nursing homes our hospitals become a for profit only business. They only care about your money. Not you the patient!
