COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Two items concerning the Rotary Park expansion and renovation project are on Monday night’s Coldwater City Council agenda.
The Council will be asked to approve a resolution and purchase offer of $250,000 for just under 1.8 acres of land to buy the Justin and Eileen Sweet property at 695 West Chicago Street through Sweet Property Group, LLC.
City Manager Keith Baker says the intent for the proposed purchase is to enhance the City’s revitalization efforts in the Rotary Park area.
Commercial structures and businesses are currently on the property. A tenant presently occupies the property as an equipment rental business.
The Council is also scheduled to set a public hearing for the March 25 meeting in order to seek a Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund Grant through the Michigan D.N.R..
The grant application deadline is April 1, 2024. The total cost of the project is about $700,000.
Baker says the city would be seeking a $400,000 grant which is the maximum under the program.
One of the requirements is a resolution in support of the grant application. In addition to supporting the grant request, Baker says the resolution also would say the city will provide any additional funds needed for the project to be completed.
City staff have proposed allocating future cannabis tax revenue as a local match.
