Bente Lieng Howe, 78, of Coldwater passed away Friday, March 8, 2024 at her home.
No services will be held at this time, interment of ashes will take place at the United Methodist Church Memorial Garden.
Arrangements are being cared for by Dutcher Funeral Home.
Bente was born February 18, 1946, in Rognan, Norway to Erling & Solbjorg (Enga) Lieng. She moved to Brooklyn, NY in 1949, growing up in Manasquan, New Jersey. She graduated from Manasquan High School and then Olivet College in 1968.
Bente married Gary L. Howe on April 16, 1986, in Bay Minette, AL.
Mrs. Howe worked most of her career as an optician at Coldwater Optometrics. She was a member of the Coldwater United Methodist Church and St. Andrew by The Sea Methodist Church in Gulf Shores, AL. Bente volunteered much of her time at the Branch Area Food Pantry and the Christian Service Center in Gulf Shores.
She was very artistic and enjoyed a variety of different crafts, including jewelry making, painting, knitting and crocheting. Bente loved spending time with her breakfast/coffee club girls and greatly treasured the time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Bente is survived by her husband Gary; her son Daniel Speaker, Jr.; her best bonus daughters ever Cindy (Al) Scharns of Battle Creek, Leslie Lamb of Springfield, Cheryl (Mark) Kellogg of DeWitt, Becky (Larry) Smith of Auburn, IN; her brother Jon Tore (Ada) Lieng of Trondheim, Norway; 15 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Trygve Lieng, and her grandson Dakota Smith.
Memorials may be directed to the Branch Area Food Pantry or the Christian Service Center in Gulf Shores, AL.
