LANSING, MI (WTVB) – As usual during the month of January, Branch County’s unemployment rate along with others around the State of Michigan went up according to data released Wednesday by the Michigan Department of Technology, Management and Budget.
Branch County’s unemployment rate was the 11th lowest in the state at 3-point-6 percent after being at 3-point-4 percent in December.
It’s the second straight increase after Branch County’s jobless rate was 3-point-1 percent in November.
The report stated that not seasonally adjusted unemployment rates advanced in all 17 Michigan labor market areas over the month according to data from the Michigan Center for Data and Analytics.
Labor market information director Wayne Rourke said, “All Michigan labor market areas exhibited typical seasonal unemployment rate increases in January. January nonfarm jobs also fell across all Michigan metro areas over the month.”
Regional work force levels were mixed in January. Labor force totals fell in nine Michigan regions but increased in eight others.
Unemployment rates also went up slightly in neighboring counties. St. Joseph County had a jobless rate of 4-point-1 percent while it was at four-point-two percent in Calhoun County and four-point-three percent in Hillsdale County.
Michigan’s January unemployment rate was at four percent.
Unemployment rates in December ranged from 2-point-9 percent in Kent, Livingston, Ottawa and Washtenaw Counties to 17 percent in Mackinac County.

I guess Bidenomics isn’t working after all.
