COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A Detroit area man has been charged with being in a stolen vehicle and then lying to a Michigan State Police trooper when he was stopped in Branch County last Saturday.
22-year-old Al Moni Gatson has been charged with receiving and concealing a stolen motor vehicle and lying to a peace officer.
According to Branch County court documents, troopers initiated a traffic stop on southbound I-69 near Pearl Road.
It was stated that the defendant at first said he didn’t have a driver’s license but later indicated he had a Pennsylvania license. State Police say it was fake.
Eventually, he admitted his real name and that he had a Michigan license.
State Police say the 2011 Ford Fusion he was driving did not have plates. A check on it found it was stolen out of the Columbus, Ohio area.
Bond for Gatson was set at $10,000. A probable cause hearing was scheduled for March 21 with a preliminary exam set for March 27.
