BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – As of Friday, there are contested races in the August Republican Primary for two seats on the Branch County Board of Commissioners as well as for Sheriff.
Commissioners Randall Hazelbaker and Jon Houtz are both facing challenges.
Jessica Green has filed to run against Hazelbaker in District One which covers the first, third and fourth wards in the City of Coldwater.
Houtz is being challenged by John Towers in District Two which covers the second ward in Coldwater as well as Coldwater Township and Girard Township.
There are three unopposed Commissioner candidates so far. Commission Chair Tim Stoll is seeking another term in district three, Richard Swanson is running in district four while David Mansfield is the only candidate so far in district five.
Running for Sheriff are Michael Thyng, Robin Swartz and Fred Blankenship.
County Clerk Terry Kubasiak, Prosecutor Zach Stempien and Treasurer Steven Rutz are unopposed as of Friday.
At last report, no Democratic Party candidates have filed.
The filing deadline to get on the August primary ballot is April 23.
