BRONSON, MI (WTVB) – A public hearing will be held as part of a special Bronson City Council meeting on Monday, March 25 as the city wants to submit a Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund grant application to the D.N.R. in order to fund the Non-motorized Trail Development Project in Bronson.
The special meeting will take place that evening at 5:00 p.m. in the Bronson City Hall.
City Manager Brandon Mersman says the purpose of the Public Hearing is for the City Council to receive public comment regarding the submittal of the grant application.
It’s estimated by Abonmarche Engineering that a paved trail would cost over $720,000 while the cost for an unpaved trail would be just over $592,000.
Mersman says while an unpaved trail is eligible, a paved trail will score higher for funding. He told the Bronson City Council last week that Abonmarche Engineering is recommending a paved trail project be done in two phases.
He says the project will include construction of a new trail along the former Northeastern Rail Line that runs through the northern portion of Bronson from Albers Road to Cronkhite Vault Services Incorporated on Industrial Avenue.
According to Mersman, the proposed trail will create pedestrian connectivity that is currently lacking in the area.
