HAMILTON, IN (WTVB) – A teenager from Hamilton, Indiana was killed Wednesday morning when his vehicle crashed into a tree in Steuben County.
The Steuben County Sheriff’s Department reports 17-year-old Leland E. Lester was driving a 2009 Crown Victoria east in the area of 2400 East Bellefountaine Road at about 11:10 a.m. when the crash took place.
They say the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed before it went off the road and struck a tree.
Lester was ejected from the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Steuben County Coroner’s Office.
The Sheriff’s Department says Lester was not wearing a seatbelt. The crash remains under investigation.
Assisting at the scene were the Hamilton Police and Fire Departments, Indiana State Police, Steuben County EMS and the Steuben County Coroner’s Office.
