COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Branch County Board of Commissioners brought forward a request from Prosecutor Zach Stempien during their work session on Thursday to replace their case tracking system.
Stempien said their current system which covers a wide variety of criminal justice information is now out of date and will be discontinued in 2026.
Stempien wants to transfer to the Karpel case tracking system at initially no cost to the county.
The county would have to pay the yearly fee of just over $10,000 after the first three years starting in 2027.
Stempien says without case tracking, his office would be unable to track, process and manage incoming cases. He hopes to go live with the new system in December.
Commissioners are scheduled to take formal action on April 2.
