COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater City Council is scheduled to take action Monday night on a request by the city to make an offer to buy property in order to realign the intersection of South Clay and Division Street.
The city wants to make a $75,000 offer for just under four-tenths of an acre of property to Steven Olmstead, through Decathlon Investments, LLC. City Manager Keith Baker says the purpose for the proposed purchase would be to realign the intersection to improve traffic safety and demolish the existing building to remove blight at the south entrance to the community.
The site was formerly the location of a service station. Most recently it has been used for storage as there is no sanitary sewer available at the property.
Baker says in his memo to the Council that an environmental study as well as asbestos testing have to be performed in order to assess possible remediation costs.
