COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A Battle Creek resident was arraigned on an charge of assault with intent to murder in Branch County District Court on Tuesday following a Michigan State Police investigation into a March 1 stabbing incident in the 200 block of Paradise Island Drive in Coldwater Township.
Bond for 19-year-old Jaden Shaun Peever was set at $150,000. His probable cause hearing is scheduled for April 11 with a preliminary exam set for April 16.
Two women who have also been charged in the case, 24-year-old Oshaegh Quince Ross McAtee and 19-year-old Caoimhe Daen-Ross McAtee, were arraigned on Monday in Branch County District Court.
They are both facing charges of Accessory After the Fact to a Felony and Obstruction of Justice. Bond for each of the McAtees was set at $50,000.
The Michigan State Police say the stabbing involved two males. Court documents state the 28-year-old stabbing victim from Ohio had originally gone to the home to do some work for the owner. He had to be treated for serious internal injuries that required surgery.
The man who was stabbed previously dated Oshaegh McAtee. State Police said their investigation discovered that an argument broke out between the Ohio man and Peever who was McAtee’s new boyfriend.
They say the victim was stabbed multiple times and tried to defend himself with a pistol. Court documents say he managed to fire a shot but he did not hit anyone.
The two females allegedly assisted the suspect flee the scene and the area for a time.
Arrest warrants were later secured for Peever and the McAtees. The females turned themselves in Monday at the Branch County Jail.
Peever was arrested Monday in Battle Creek without incident by the Michigan State Police 5th District Fugitive team and lodged in the Branch County jail.
