COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Branch County Commissioner Jon Houtz reported during Tuesday’s meeting that Maple Lawn Medical Care Facility and Rehabilitation has been at near capacity for the last several months.
Maple Lawn’s full capacity is 114 and Houtz told Commission Chair Tim Stoll their census was at 110 last Friday.
Houtz serves as the Commissioners liaison to Maple Lawn.
Maple Lawn repaid the remainder of the $500,000 they borrowed from Branch County almost three months ahead of schedule in February.
A resolution passed by the Commissioners in April of 2023 called for Maple Lawn to make a full $500,000 repayment to the county by May 1, 2024.
Maple Lawn faced some financial difficulties in 2022 and 2023 after there was a cut in residents during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Until just a few years ago there was a long waiting list, then they started spending money like drunken sailors and their reputation dropped like a rock.
