COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – After a number of vandalism incidents, Coldwater City Manager Keith Baker said during Monday night’s City Council meeting that repairs have been completed on the downtown fire pit controls.
The fire pit has been a target of vandals since it was installed in the northwest corner of the Four Corners Park in early 2023.
It has been out of commission for awhile but Baker said Case Welding has upgraded the screen to make it more rigid and hopefully less susceptible to vandalism and damage.
He says the fire pit should be back in service by the end of the month for spring and summer downtown events.

Putting this firepit in downtown was a big mistake — it didn’t take rocket science to realize it would be a target for vandalism…. take it out and use the money for something more important. It’s just a shame that our city is becoming like most others – a few people spoil things for everyone else … smh
Petty crimes leads to more severe crimes. Put up cameras and warning signs stating penalties for vandalism of city properties or your four corner renovation will end up like the fire pit.
