Thomas Leo Bishop Sr., 70, of Sherwood passed away surrounded by his family Tuesday, April 9, 2024 at his home, under the care of Centrica Care Hospice.
A memorial service will take place at 3:00 p.m. Friday, April 12, 2024 at Lighthouse Funeral & Cremation, 1276 Tate Trail, Union City, MI, 49094 with Pastor Robert Schwartz officiating.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 1:00-3:00 p.m., also at Lighthouse.
Private interment will be at Matteson Township Cemetery in Bronson at a later date.
Thomas was born on October 8, 1953, in Battle Creek, Michigan, to Virgil and Shirley (Holtz) Bishop. He graduated from Delton Kellogg High School with the Class of 1972.
He started working at 12 years old, as a paper boy. As an adult, he began painting the Coca Cola logos on semi-trucks and he entered into the industrial trades as a tool and die worker at Spring Tools in Schoolcraft. He then became employed for Maxitrol in Colon, specializing in machine set up, which he later retired from in 2016, moving on to Pleasant Acres Deer Farm in Colon.
July, 15, 1972, Thomas married Peggy Campbell in Battle Creek, Michigan. Together they shared 52 years of marriage.
Thomas enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling, cars, and could often be found tinkering in the barn. He enjoyed spending time with his family and close friends. His family describes him as “straight forward, sarcastic, and old school.”
In addition to his wife Peggy, Thomas is survived by his children, Thomas (Jamie) Bishop Jr., Benjamin (Mandy) Bishop; his grandchildren, Jace (Shayla) Bishop, Taylor (Jaylen) Bishop, Kassidy Bishop, Zachary (Adah) Bishop; his sister-in-law, Rhonda Bishop; and his close friends, Jeff and Gayle VanVorst.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Timothy Bishop.
