COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Historic District Commission approved three downtown projects that are in line for $112,500 in grants that will be used for facade renovations on Monday night.
The Coldwater Main Street Program announced the awards on March 20 for projects at 49 West Chicago Street, Jeannie’s Diner and at Southern Roots Salon & Spa on South Monroe.
Architect Scott Morrison said the work at 49 West Chicago will include the removal of a mansard roof that will expose windows on the third floor.
Charles Wood says the Jeanie’s Diner project will include work on the windows.
Danielle Green said the work at the Southern Roots building is long needed.
The Commission determined the projects follow the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Rehabilitation.
With the H.D.C. approval, grant agreements with Coldwater Main Street will be executed. Project work must be completed by the end of the year.
The projects include restoration of 11 historic non-functioning windows; mansard roof removal; three updated and/or refreshed paint schemes; tuck pointing and stucco repair; and some building maintenance.
The program is funded by a $75,000 grant from the Michigan Economic Development Corporation and $37,500 in matching funds from Coldwater Main Street.
