COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Branch County Board of Commissioners approved a resolution on Tuesday that addresses the costs and special assessment rolls in connection with repairs and maintenance of the Lake George Dam.
Branch County has an interlocal agreement with the Lake George Conservancy District in Steuben County, Indiana for the joint funding of lake level projects.
A public meeting for Michigan residents of Lake George was held this past Saturday at the Lake George Regional Sewer District Building in order to review the Special Assessment of about $200 a year for the next 21 years.
Branch County Drain Commissioner Mike Hard said during last Thursday’s work session the money would be used to pay for this summer’s work at the dam that was built in 1927 on the Indiana side of the lake.
There are no changes to the assessments compared to last year.
The Branch County Drain Commissioner is responsible for maintaining the lake level of Lake George which covers two counties as well as two states.
There are 300 homes on the Indiana side of the lake and 200 on the Michigan side.
