SPRINGPORT, MI (WTVB) – The Quincy Orioles split their Big 8 Conference girls softball doubleheader with Springport on Tuesday as the Orioles won the opener 7-2 before dropping the nightcap 11-8.
First game winning pitcher Danika Skirka allowed two earned runs.
The offense was led by Payton Gross who went 3-for-4 with a double. Skirka doubled and drove in two runs. Deziray Skirka, Miley Poindexter, Makiya Feltner, Josie Mescher and Kaylee Modert all singled.
Springport took advantage of some early Orioles walks and miscues on defense and used a six run fifth inning to hand Quincy their first conference loss.
Quincy left 13 runners on base in the game. The Orioles were led on offense once again by Gross as she went 3-for-4 with three RBI’s.
Poindexter, Feltner and Modert all had two hits. Alyssa McCavit score three runs.
Quincy now stands at 5-1 in the Big 8 and 8-5 overall.
