LANSING, MI (WTVB) – After going up for three straight months, Branch County’s unemployment rate went down in March by two-tenths of a percent to three-point-six percent.
According to data released Thursday by the Michigan Department of Technology, Management and Budget, Branch County’s unemployment rate was the tenth lowest in the state.
Branch County’s labor force in March stood at 20,175. Of that number, 19,446 were employed.
The report stated not seasonally adjusted jobless rates receded in 16 of Michigan’s 17 labor market areas over the month, according to data released by the Michigan Center for Data and Analytics. Labor market information director Wayne Rourke says, “Michigan regions demonstrated positive labor market trends over the month. Seasonal jobless rate reductions and payroll job gains occurred throughout most metro areas.”
Unemployment rates went down slightly in neighboring counties. St. Joseph County had a jobless rate of 4.1 percent while it was at 4.4 percent in Calhoun County and 4.3 percent in Hillsdale County.
Michigan’s March unemployment rate held steady at 3.9 percent.
Unemployment rates in March ranged from two-point-seven percent in Livingston County to 17.8 percent in Mackinac County.
