COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Arbor Day Foundation has named Coldwater a 2023 Tree City USA for the 18th consecutive year.
A press release from the city stated Coldwater achieved Tree City USA recognition by meeting the program’s requirements of maintaining a tree board or department, having a tree care ordinance, dedicating an annual community forestry budget of at least $2 per capita and hosting an Arbor Day observance and proclamation.
The Tree City USA program is sponsored by the Arbor Day Foundation, in partnership with the U.S. Forest Service and the National Association of State Foresters.
The city says their Department of Municipal Services works every year to replace trees that needs to be removed and they will plant nearly 25 trees this spring in a variety of species from Eastern Redbud to Red Maple.
The City of Coldwater is currently home to over 5,000 trees which represent 115 species.
