UNION CITY, MI (WTVB) – The Alumni Field renovation project in Union City is drawing to a close.
The eastern half of the bleacher seats were finished on Wednesday just in time for Union City’s home track meet against Reading and Springport.
The western half of the bleachers are expected to be done by the end of the week.
Wednesday’s track meet was the first athletic event to be held at the renovated Alumni Field.
The first home track meets were scheduled to be held last week.
But due to unforeseen construction challenges, the Middle School and High School Invitational meets had to be moved to Athens High School to ensure the safety and experience of all participants and spectators.
The renovation of Alumni Field started just under a year ago. Temporary bleachers and restrooms had to be used for the Union City home football games last fall.
Union City Community School District voters approved a sinking fund millage renewal proposal in August of 2021 which provided a portion of the funding for the replacement of the Alumni Field bleachers as well as for other projects in the district.
