COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Cardinal girls soccer team picked up their first Interstate 8 victory of the season as they defeated visiting Pennfield 5-2 Friday night.
Cara Miller had the only goal of the first half as she scored off a goalkeeper ricochet with 14:07 left to give the Cardinals a 1-0 halftime lead. Goals by Riley Scheetz and Lily Bockheim followed.
Pennfield got on board thanks to a Reese Lessig penalty kick with 12:40 left in the game; Lessig scored again three minutes later to cut the lead to one goal despite the Panthers being down a player due to a red card.
Two goals by Bella Lozada-Risi in the last four minutes helped Coldwater close out the win; Maya Walinski had an assist on the final goal.
Coldwater outshot Pennfield 15-8 as goalkeeper Izzy Pool made 6 saves. The Cardinals improved to 5-6-2 overall, 1-3 in the Interstate 8, and travel to Parma Western next Wednesday.
The Panthers dropped to 8-3-1 overall, 0-2-1 in the league with their third straight loss.
