COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Planning Commission approved a Special Land Use Permit request from Joseph Wright on Monday for the old Shopper’s Guide building on South Monroe Street.
The Special Land Use Permit would allow residential housing on the first floor of the building which is located within the C-2 Central Business District.
That request sparked a lengthy discussion among Planning Commission members. Jessika Cole felt property owners needed to be given some flexibility.
Eventually, the Planning Commission agreed with City Manager Keith Baker that Wright’s request be limited to one unit.
Coldwater Planner and Zoning Administrator Jake VanBoxel says Wright is in the process of turning the northern and eastern parts of the building into a youth baseball training facility while utilizing the south section as a residential dwelling.
The northern part of the building would consist of office space and a lounge while the large open area in the eastern section of the building would serve as the training facility.
