Roberta Jean Casselman, 90, of Sherwood passed away Tuesday, May 7, 2024, at The Birches AFC in Leonidas.
A celebration of Roberta’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 13, 2024 at Lighthouse of Athens, 310 S. Capital Ave. Athens, MI, 49011 with Pastor Trent Hammond of Crossroads Bible Church in Sherwood officiating.
Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service, beginning at 10:00 a.m., also at Lighthouse of Athens.
Private interment will take place at Factoryville Cemetery in Leonidas Township.
Roberta was born on September 7, 1933, to John and Eunice (Stanton) Cousins in Vicksburg, Michigan. She graduated from Vicksburg High School with the Class of 1951. On August 12, 1950, Roberta married Jay Eli Casselman in LaGrange, Indiana. They shared 69 wonderful years of marriage together, before he preceded her in death on November 5, 2019.
Roberta was employed as a cook for Colon Community Schools, before retiring in 1991. She enjoyed playing bingo, going to casinos, gardening her flowers, polishing rocks she had found, and traveling; specifically to Florida in the wintertime and South Haven in the summertime. She was a member of Crossroads Bible Church in her hometown of Sherwood.
Roberta is survived by her children, Dixie (David) Lash, Dan (Diane) Casselman, Susan (Merle) Melendy all of Sherwood; her siblings, Larry (Barb) Cousins, John “Allen” (Betty) Cousins, and Dennis (Lee) Cousins; and her 15 beautiful grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Rose Casselman; her sister, Patricia Ross; her brothers, Kenneth and Donald Cousins; and her infant sister.
